Canada World Youth arrives in Cornwall:
Eighteen young people seek host families and volunteer work
Eighteen young people seek host families and volunteer work
Cornwall, June 10, 2014 - From October 20th to December 21st,
Cornwall will be hosting a group of 18 Canada World Youth (CWY) volunteers from
Vietnam and Canada. The youth volunteers’
two-month stay in the community will be the second stage of a CWY educational
program in youth leadership and sustainability. The first half of the program
will take place in Vietnam.
For the first time, Cornwall will host eighteen CWY youth volunteers: David
Arsenault has just arrived in Cornwall to begin laying the groundwork for the
program and is inviting the members of the community to get involved with youth
volunteers during their stay. There are two ways to do so:
1. Become a host family for two youth volunteers, one from Canada and
one from Vietnam.
2. Offer volunteer work opportunities to give CWY volunteers hands-on
work experience.
Host families and volunteer work
Integration into a family and volunteer work with local agencies and
organizations are key goals of the program. They provide youth volunteers an
opportunity to learn about the region as well as the local lifestyle and
culture.
Canada World Youth is looking for host families who have an
openness and enthusiasm to share part of their home life with two young people,
and a desire to allow their lives to be enriched by these new relationships.
Host families receive a weekly allowance of $180.
CWY also needs organizations interested in welcoming young volunteers,
to help them acquire hands-on work experience and develop job skills for the
future. We are seeking work placements in the
following areas: Health, Reproductive
health & disease & HIV/AIDS prevention, and Gender Equity.
